{"id":26,"date":"2025-10-01T16:26:39","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T15:26:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/looking4stg.wpenginepowered.com\/?p=26"},"modified":"2026-07-17T09:55:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T08:55:08","slug":"best-inflight-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.looking4.com\/blog\/best-inflight-food\/","title":{"rendered":"Best In-flight Food: the good, the bad and the ugly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Snacks on a plane &#8211; which airlines are cooking up cloud nine and which are dishing out mile-high messes?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mystery meats, sticky pasta, sad cheese sandwiches\u2026 plane food isn\u2019t exactly famous for its culinary finesse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We might have nailed the whole tech-in-the-sky thing to an impressive standard &#8211; with wifi and in-flight movies available for our flying pleasure &#8211; but many airlines still struggle to produce top quality meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, not all plane food is created equal. Some airlines even have their own cookbook, believe it or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So which flights delight the airborne tastebuds and which give us turbulence in our tums? We\u2019ve rounded the best, the worst and the downright scary&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Good<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing chefs on the ground don\u2019t have to worry about is cabin pressure. But it\u2019s actually the reason in-flight food can taste so bleak: taste buds and sense of smell are the first things to go. Rich flavours become mild, especially salty and sweet. But not when you fly with&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.singaporeair.com\/en_UK\/en-US\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Singapore Air<\/a>. All dishes are tested under pressure, literally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The airline &#8211; which won the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.saveur.com\/good-taste-awards-2015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saveur Good Taste Awards 2015<\/a>&nbsp;for best airborne dining &#8211; also gives you the option to pre order your meal. Choose from the likes of pan-fried chicken breast with sweet and sour port wine sauce, Singapore bak kut teh (pork spare ribs in a peppered broth with rice) and seared beef fillet with fondant potatoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But you don\u2019t need to travel business or first class to experience quality food in the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cathaypacific.com\/cx\/en_US.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cathay Pacific<\/a>, a runner up for the airborne dining award, has partnered with the renowned Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group to offer economy travellers dishes such as Hong Kong-style curry chicken with steamed jasmine rice and Haagen-Dazs ice cream for dessert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be sure to check out&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inflightfeed.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Inflight Feed<\/a>&nbsp;founded by Nikos Loukas, who worked in the airline industry for more than 15 years before he began reviewing onboard dining for every budget. Take a look at his glowing review for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inflightfeed.com\/easyjet-meals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Easyjet\u2019s perfect croque monsieur<\/a>&nbsp;for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Bad<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It seems the old plane food joke may soon become obsolete, with more and more airlines challenging restaurants themselves in terms of taste. But that doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re a thing of the past &#8211; yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Skytrax, a UK-based airline and airport consultancy, marked North Korea\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.airkoryo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Air Koryo<\/a>&nbsp;as bottom of 681 airlines in terms of product and service quality. It received one-star in both, as well as the \u2018quality of food served\u2019 category. This burger was an example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Ugly<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There you are, zooming through the sky at 600 miles an hour, gazing down on puffy white clouds, part of the glamorous jet set &#8211; and the view on your plate doesn\u2019t exactly match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;After living off rice for the last 10 days, I couldn&#8217;t wait to have an &#8216;English Breakfast&#8217; when offered it on the plane. But then, I got this,\u2019 say Instagram user Chris Wilko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018I think it was cucumber with chicken flavoured whiskas (and extra jelly)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/planefood?f=tweets&amp;src=hash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#planefood<\/a>\u2019, was Twitter user Emily Puddifer\u2019s caption for this tub of wonder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next time you\u2019re taking to the air be sure to pop your phone on Airplane mode and take a snap of the delight (or dread) you\u2019re presented with.
