Bangkok is the place to go for 2023

Out of everywhere in the world, one city reigned supreme, and that’s Bangkok, according to TikTok! So, what makes it such a special place to visit?

1. Bangkok, Thailand

With a huge 107,700,000,000 hashtags on TikTok, Thailand’s capital comes out firmly on top of our list of places to go in 2023, with more than double the amount of mentions of the next destination on the list

A vibrant city with bustling streets, Bangkok truly is a city that never sleeps, and if you love mixing equal parts culture with nightlife, then this is the destination for you. Make the Grand Palace one of your first stops, with its ornate architecture, before heading to Chatuchak Market for some retail therapy, and ending your day with a relaxing boat ride down the Chao Phraya river.

2. Singapore, Singapore

The third Asian city to make it onto our list, Singapore boasts 46,000,000,000 hashtags on TikTok. Famed for being one of the cleanest cities in the world (and one of the most expensive), you could easily wile away the days at the infinity pool at Marina Bay Sands – which just so happens to be the largest rooftop infinity pool in the world.

However, you’d be missing out on a lot of sightseeing if you did that! Start by checking out the Gardens by the Bay with its treetop walk and waterfall, head to the zoo to see all the different types of animals, before spending your evening sampling the many dishes at one of the hawker markets.

3. Paris, France

There’s no way the city of love wasn’t going to be featuring on this list, and with an impressive 43,300,000,000 hashtags, it’s made it into fourth position. Ideal for visiting in summer, with its outdoor café and bar nightlife, or in winter with its twinkling lights and cute ice rinks, Paris truly is the perfect place to visit year-round.

Of course, you have to tick off the classic attractions first, like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Notre-Dame, but be sure to stroll around the pretty Luxembourg Gardens, enjoy some luxury shopping on the Champs-Elysées, home to many French brands including Saint Laurent and Celine, and enjoy one of the best macarons in the world, at Ladurée.

4. Dubai, UAE

With 34,100,000,000 hashtags, Dubai rounds off our top four, and whilst it’s most well-known for its flashy malls, hotels, and shopping, that’s not all there is to see (although you have to experience it while you’re there!).

Once you’ve had your fill of luxury shopping, extravagant brunches and wild pool parties, head to the spice souk where you’ll get to purchase everything from saffron to rosehip; explore the historical Al Fahidi neighbourhood, where you’ll be able to see what Dubai was like pre the Emirates forming, and enjoy a camel ride in the desert.

5. New York City, USA

Somewhere that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime, New York makes up our top five list, with 26,100,000,000 hashtags on TikTok.

Central Park, the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty are all places to visit on your first trip to the Big Apple; but just being in the city and soaking up the atmosphere is a great way to spend your time in New York. With so many independent shops, and quirky bars and restaurants, you could return to New York so many times, and never get bored!

The only European cities to make it into the top 10 are Istanbul (although technically, part of the city does fall into Asia!), which is a great place for people who love to experience new cultures, and Rome.

From the Colosseum to the Pantheon and Trevi fountain, Rome has so many major sights to tick off the list, alongside lots of great bars, restaurants and cafes to sample. Head over to Vatican City to see the Pope (and tick another country off your list at the same time!), or combine Rome into a larger Italian adventure, passing through Naples on your way to the Amalfi Coast.
