What’s more, it also serves as a base for the Irish national carrier Aer Lingus as well as its subsidiary Aer Lingus Regional. Although many long-haul destinations are served from this airport, flights to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain are the busiest.

Dublin Airport started operated commercial flights in 1940, however it is not until after World War2 that the number of routes from this airport started to grow substantially. Although passenger numbers did dip slightly after the Irish recession of 2011, passenger numbers have been on the increase as Dublin gradually regains its status as a major business and finance centre.
