Fast food
As well as a number of world-famous fast food chains, IND’s Civic Plaza houses a selection of eateries serving up Indianapolis’ favorite foodstuffs, from frozen yogurt, fresh salad platters and specialty deli menus to gourmet popcorn and locally-made artisanal chocolate.
There is even a unique diner that’s styled in celebration of ‘the greatest spectacle in racing’, the legendary Indy 500, that has taken place just 12 miles (19.3 kilometers) north of IND for over 100 years. So, whether you need to grab something on the go or enjoy a hearty meal before your flight, get stuck in at the Civic Plaza.
Sky-high street
Not only is the Civic Plaza packed with pre-flight retail options, but it also serves as a shopping street for the local region. Open to the public as well as those traveling through the airport, the Civic Plaza’s lively sense of community has attracted a vibrant range of international and local outlets.
There are shops selling travel essentials, vacation reading and all the digital accessories you could want, along with a boutique that stocks a unique selection of clothes, lifestyle accessories, art, souvenirs and gifts, all of which are produced by local designers and craftspeople.
Arty Indianapolis
As a gateway to the iconic cultural identity of the Hoosier state, IND provides a showcase for Indiana’s creative talent in a series of permanent collections and pop-up gallery spaces. As well as works from established artists, Indianapolis Airport’s rotating exhibitions feature exclusive art from different up-and-coming Indiana talents every three months, so there will pretty much always be something new to see whenever you pass through.
Terminal tours
Feeling restless? Take a tour of the airport on one of IND’s innovative walking routes around the terminal. Five different paths lead you past some of the most interesting spots in the airport, including the place where you can get the best view of the runways and locations where you can browse some of the most intriguing artwork on display.
These walks are a great way to clear your head and take in all the activity of the airport from a new perspective.
Music on the move
On the first Friday of every month, IND’s Civic Plaza plays host to some of Indiana’s finest singers and musicians performing much-loved classics, as well as their own compositions. From 11am to 7pm, visitors can expect to hear a heady mix of jazz, blues, folk and traditional tunes from acoustic acts, solo singers and local high school bands.
As well as being a pleasant way to pass the time before you fly, IND’s First Fridays are a great way to get a real taste for all that Indiana has to offer if you’re only traveling through.

One of the first of its kind, Indianapolis Airport’s Hands-Only CPR Training kiosk can teach you life-saving skills in minutes. Featuring a touchscreen and high-tech practice mannequin, the kiosk provides personalized feedback about the depth and rate of your compressions and the effectiveness of your hand placement on the mannequin to help you provide CPR whenever it might be required.
