JAX offers on-site parking at several garages and lots arranged around the airport property with short-term, long-term and valet options available. As a complimentary service to all travelers, the airport provides flat battery assistance, flat tire inflation and help locating your car if you can't find it.
There are drop-off and pick-up points immediately outside the terminals, but cars cannot be parked or left here. If you want to see people off at departures, you'll need to park in the hourly garage right next to the main terminal area.
If you're picking people up from arrivals and aren't sure when they'll have been through baggage reclaim, you can wait in the free cell phone lot until they call from outside arrivals.
The daily garage can be used to park your own car if you're only going on a short weekend or business trip. The uncovered lot is convenient for terminal access, since it’s within walking distance of the entrance.

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is a joint civil and military airport located a short distance from Jacksonville, Florida. Transporting around six million passengers every year, Jacksonville is a comparatively small airport with a single terminal, two runways and a small Air National Guard base on the edge of the property.
Only eight airlines currently offer services and they are mostly the major and economy carriers in North America. Routes cover most of the major cities in the eastern USA and one international destination in Toronto via Air Canada. The most popular destinations from the airport include Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Charlotte Douglas Airport (CLT) and John F Kennedy Airport (JFK) in New York.
Although there are several larger airports in Florida, Jacksonville's location at the edge of the state, close to Georgia, fills a large geographical gap between Orlando and Atlanta. It provides convenient air travel for the people of Jacksonville as well as nearby towns and cities including Brunswick, Gainesville, Lake City, Ocala, Daytona Beach, Waycross and even Tallahassee and Savannah.
The airport is about 13 miles (20.9 kilometers) north of the center of Jacksonville, right on the edge of the city close to where the I-95 and I-295 intersect. The interstates are the only options to reach JAX by road wherever you travel from and there are no rail connections without a transfer in the city center.
The only direct public transport available is the Route 1 North Main bus service from Rosa Parks Station in central Jacksonville, which is provided by Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA). National rail and bus services connect to the airport via the JTA bus network at Jacksonville Central Station.
There are no trains directly to the airport or no useful connection points between Jacksonville Central Station and the airport. If you need to take a train elsewhere in Florida or are coming into the area via Amtrak, Central Station is the one you’ll want. From there, you can get buses, taxis and rental cars to take you to JAX Airport.
Jacksonville has just one terminal divided into several primary areas; a central entrance space, two concourses (A and C) for the departure gates and an arrivals area with baggage reclaim and rental car companies.

Jacksonville Airport is quite a small site and inevitably offers fewer amenities and concessions than the large international airports. You can still expect to find a modern, spacious and relatively quiet airport with all the essentials and some great brands to boot, but JAX is not JFK.
Regular travelers at other airports may be used to factoring in lots of time to travel between terminals and gates. At Jacksonville International Airport, however, the single terminal is small and easy to navigate; even the rental car center is housed inside the terminal itself. Most regulars at JAX report quick journeys through the airport and efficient security lines.
It may be straightforward to get around the grounds of JAX, but getting to the city is a little more challenging. Buses are regular, but stop running relatively early and there is currently no complimentary shuttle bus service or airport express available to the public. The best way to get to and from JAX is by car on the day, but you can also make use of the airport hotels if you want to arrive the night before to be sure of catching your flight.
Jacksonville Airport was established by the military in 1965 to replace Imeson Field and facilitate travel between naval bases. The old airport had no extra space for development, so a modern and unique facility was brought to the area.
The original design was such that the arrivals and departures spaces were located on the same level at different ends of the airport, but ever-increasing demand forced a rethink to optimize the space and new levels were introduced.
Progress was slow as the airport grew to just two million passengers over the next 20 years, but civil and military roles continued throughout the 1980s and 1990s. As an Air National Guard base, military operations were focused on the opposite side of the runways to the main terminal, whilst the main airport focused on commercial air transport.
By 2000, annual passenger numbers had climbed to five million and a development plan was launched to rebuild much of the terminal building, improve concessions and expand the number of airport parking spaces.
The primary road for access to Jacksonville International Airport from almost anywhere in the country, is the I-95. Running all the way down the East Coast from Maine to Miami, the I-95 passes through the center of Jacksonville and close to JAX, which is just north of the city.
From further west, the I-75 from Atlanta and I-10 from Tallahassee are the best ways into Jacksonville. On approach, you’ll take the I-95 north to reach the airport, which is about 13 miles (20.9 kilometers) from the city center.
Once you're on the I-95, look out for exit 363 onto Airport Road, which leads directly to the JAX terminal buildings. There are plenty of parking options in and around the airport, but you can also utilize rental cars, taxis, limousines and shared-ride service throughout Jacksonville, its surrounding areas and other major cities.
Several hotels based close to Jacksonville International Airport provide a shuttle bus service for their customers, but the only bus connection with Jacksonville city is the Route 1 North Main service from Rosa Parks Station, which is provided by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA).
Buses run from early morning until evening with times varying through the day, but averaging out to around one bus every 20 minutes. The JTA network runs across the entire Jacksonville area and connects Rosa Parks Station to national rail and bus services from Amtrak and Greyhound at Jacksonville Central Station.
There are no trains directly to the airport or nearby or no useful connection points between Jacksonville Central Station and the airport. You can catch buses or taxis from Central Station to the airport itself. It’s also possible to rent cars from there to help you get around.
JAX Airport is considered small for an international airport, but manages to offer a good range of services, shopping and airport food and drink nonetheless. With only one small terminal, it's easy to get around the concessions before your flight.

Some of the cats came from private owners who tried to keep them as pets, others came from failed zoos or federal confiscations, but one thing is for sure: all of them have a safe home at the sanctuary.

The Timucuan Preserve includes plenty of walking trails and striking viewpoints of the area, as well as historic buildings and memorials, such as the Kingsley Plantation from the 1700s and a recreation of Fort Caroline from the 1500s.
