About Hamburg airport

Hamburg Airport is the oldest and fifth largest airport in Germany. In 2015, there was a passenger volume of 15.6 million flight passengers at Hamburg Airport with numbers continuously increasing each year. The airport is situated in the north, about 8 km away from Hamburg’s city centre and within 8 km distance from the city centre of Norderstedt and belongs to Hamburg’s district Fuhlsbüttel. The Airport is connected to Hamburg’s S-Bahn (city train) HVV and has its own station connected to the S1, called „Hamburg Airport“.

At Hamburg Airport, low cost airlines such as Ryanair, Sun Express and Easyjet, but also renowned airlines such as Lufthansa, KLM, Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines are well established. Popular international direct flights from Hamburg Airport include Dubai, Madrid, Moscow, New York, Stockholm and Istanbul. Within Germany, the airport connects Hamburg with Hannover, Dresden, Nuremburg, Munich, Dusseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Frankfurt, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Friedrichshafen and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden.

The two airport terminals are built in a very similar architectural style. Terminal 1 is the newest building for passenger handling and was opened in 2005 with a construction for use of rainwater, as well as the use of geothermal energy. Terminal 2 was opened in 1993 and its building is modelled on a starting aircraft. In large parts, the flights of the Star Alliance and Lufthansa operate at this terminal. The AirportPlaza is the newest building for passenger services and interconnects the two terminals. It offers various shops, restaurants and cafes to flight passengers and the S-Bahn station „Hamburg Airport“ is situated in its basement.

Flight passengers who would like to park at Hamburg Airport and save money, can choose between four different parking providers on this website. There are several Park & Ride options which offer a shuttle service free of charge, which transports customers quickly to their departure terminal at the airport. If you want to park more conveniently to check-in as fast as possible, you can also book Meet & Greet on this website. With this parking option, you can drop off your car directly at your departure terminal at the airport, hand it over to a member of staff and go straight to your check-in gate. Upon your return, a member of staff will wait for you with your car at your arrival terminal, so you can drive straight home.
